GULLS HAVE ASA UP THEIR SLEEVE

- By David Richardson

ASA HALL’s impact at Torquay United is clear for all to see – when he doesn’t play they don’t win!

The National League’s Player of the Month for February has showed his worth once more at the Gulls now he’s fit and firing again following injury.

The 33-year-old captain led his side to victories and clean sheets over FC Halifax Town and Chorley to lift them towards the 50-point mark in their first season back in Non-League’s top-flight.

When Hall, the ex-Luton Town, Oxford United, Shrewsbury Town, Cheltenham Town, York City and Barrow midfielder, missed 16 games earlier this season – Torquay lost nine of them!

Meanwhile, Harrogate have bolstered their title charge and made hay in the FA Trophy with Simon Weaver picking up the manager award.

Alan Roe of Chesterfield won the Volunteer of the Month having been involved with the club for many years since the 1970s in various capacities.

Gateshead’s

Mike Williamson won the North manager prize, ending February with an 11-game unbeaten run still intact after wins against Leamington and

Curzon Ashton.

The Heed also saw off Boston United with ease and earned draws at Kidderminster Harriers and Guiseley.

Harriers’ goalkeeper Will Mannion impressed to claim the division’s Player of the Month. He kept a clean

sheet at high-flying King’s Lynn Town and then against Farsley Celtic and Gateshead. Christine Classon of Southport won the Volunteer of the Month award. She commits over 20 hour per week to the club and also runs the Sandgrounders’ accounts. Hampton’s Gary McCann is the National League South Manager of the Month after lifting them to the cusp of the play-offs including scoring seven over Hungerford and a last-minute victory at Maidstone. Tonbridge Angels midfielder Joe Turner helped the club’s hopes of survival with four goals in February to earn the player prize. Kevin Banks and Paul Valentine of Weymouth picked up the volunteer award. The duo have provided the club with an excellent playing surface for a number of years as volunteers at the Bob Lucas Stadium.
