OUR FANS CUT THE MUSTARD!

- By David Richardson

AFC WULFRUNIANS are proving they are a cut above the rest by attempting to fill their ground to raise money for the NHS.

The Midland League Premier side are aiming to pack out the 450 seats at their CKW Stadium with cardboard cutouts of generous fans.

Inspired by German club Borussia Mönchengladbach – who are playing games behind-closed-doors but in front of 13,000 pictures of their supporters – the Wulfs are offering the unique opportunity for £20, with £5 going to frontline workers, £3 to the club and £12 to cover the costs of the print.

“We pinched the idea with pride!” committee member Dave Rowley told The NLP.

“It’s not about making a load of money for the club, it might help pay an electric bill or something, it’s just keeping our name out there and doing a bit of good for somebody.

“It’s a tidy little stadium for our level. It’s very well maintained and the idea is to fill as many seats as possible.”

The club has been running an online keepy-uppy competition for the last eight weeks and is doing its bit to keep the local Wolverhampton community engaged.

And their latest project is gathering pace.

“Bearing in mind we’re lucky to get 120 on a matchday, we’ve done 60 seats so far,” he added. “The chairman Clive Morris is planning to keep them in all the time!

“But next season when things get going again we’ll designate a game where we hand over the heads to the people who purchased them. We’ll put on a buffet to say thank you and hand over the cheque to the NHS, that’s the long-term plan.

“One of our sponsors John Woodward took the opportunity to have a couple made of his father and his father-inlaw, who both passed away recently, and one of himself sat in between them which was a nice touch.

“There was a recognition at the club we needed to do more and we’re trying to do that now.”
