ACE ALFIE IS JUST WHITE FOR WANDS

-

MARC WHITE reckons new signing Alfie Rutherford has all the hallmarks to be a huge fans’ favourite at Dorking Wanderers.

Wands boss White swooped to sign the highly-rated 21-year-old from National League South promotion rivals Havant & Waterlooville, where he scored 63 goals from 162 appearances.

“I’m really excited about the signing of Alfie,” White told the club’s website.

“He is going to become a huge fans favourite. He has a proven track record despite still only being 21 years old.

“Having watched Alfie for a long time I think he will fit into our club perfectly. He is a natural goal scorer who plays with an infectious tenacity.

“I appreciate the support from Havant in facilitating this move.”

Rutherford’s switch to Meadowbank reunites him with former teammates Ed Harris and Jason Prior, who he forged a successful partnership with at Bognor Regis in 2015-16 with over 60 goals between them.

And he admitted that proved a major bargaining tool in agreeing to a two-year deal.

“I absolutely loved my time at Havant and I especially enjoyed all the support I had from the fans,” said Rutherford, who scored 17 goals for the Hawks in their 2018-19 relegation season from the National League.

“I did however feel that it was time for a new challenge. As everybody knows Dorking are a well-run football club with a great reputation, so I am excited to be joining them and linking up again with some of my old teammates.”
