If you could stay in isolation with one teammate from your career, who would it be?

I could give you loads I wouldn’t want to spend it with! I’ll go with Leon Scott from my Darlington days. He’s a great lad and he looked after me when I signed for them. He loves his fitness, so I’d be able to keep fit and is a really motivational guy as well so he’d help you through it.

Farsley’s captain Danny Ellis. He’ll definitely manage in Non-League in the next five years, he’s just a winner. Always commanded the best of his players but was also there to put the arm around them if it didn’t go their way.

I can’t pick just one. Phil Turnbull is technically unbelievable. He runs every game he plays from midfield. As an out-and-out strike partner too, it has to be Jimmy Spencer. He doesn’t half love a moan on the pitch but he’s incredible off it – he gets the best out of everyone he plays with, we had a good relationship.

As a striker myself, I’ve always admired Ciaran Kilheeney. He used to play for Droyslden. He’s one of the best Non-League strikers I’ve ever seen – he got goals every single week. Steven Thompson is another one, he’s got everything.

Conor McLaughlin stands out for being so late once that the rest of us had already headed out for the warm-up!

Ryan Giggs and Eric Cantona. Giggs was a speedy winger but Cantona was unreal. I think I was only about eight when he was at the top of his game but

The last three managers I’ve had have all had their own qualities. Billy Miller, at Harrogate Railway, knew exactly what I needed all the time. Martin Gray, at Darlington, certainly got the absolute best out of me, while Adam Lakeland, at Farsley Celtic, always understood where I was coming from and vice versa.

Most likely to disgrace themselves at the Christmas party? There was a group of us at Harrogate Railway but I’ll have to go with Lee Ashforth. He was best man at my wedding. We’ve just booked the Christmas party so I’m looking forward to seeing what happens!

My goal in the play-off final for Darlington to go up against Bamber Bridge. We got a throw in on the right, Gary Brown throws it in, I think it was Alan White who flicked it on, and I just gambled in the box and volleyed in then ran away celebrating. You don’t forget goals

like that.

All my promotions are equal. I’ve had a lucky few years, to be fair. Winning the league with Darlington with 3,000 fans there is obviously different to doing it with Farsley with a 1,000 but it means exactly the same.

It’s not a bad ground and they’re a great club but Warrington is always a horrible place to go and play. They’re a big, tough, physical side. I don’t think I’ve ever been there and won. I don’t know what it is but whatever side they put out, they’re tough to play against.
