ROMANS AND TERRAS CALL FOR HELP
BATH City are calling for their supporters to help raise crucial funds to compete in the National League South play-offs.
The Romans finished fourth and will host Dorking Wanderers at Twerton Park in an eliminator tie next month.
The club’s board met on Monday evening to discuss the logistics of competing in the playoffs and are now rolling out a plan to facilitate and fund Jerry Gill’s promotion mission.
Gill has returned from furlough and training is due to resume imminently with the club set to call upon its fans for help.
Chairman Nick Blofeld said: “It’s been a tremendous achievement for our team to finish fourth and have a home tie in the newly re-organised play-offs.
“Of course, this is a financial, as well as playing, challenge and we’re going to be asking supporters to help fund the £35,000 projected extra costs of participating.
“We have a fantastic chance of going for promotion but, as a responsible club, we don’t want to spend next season’s money funding it when next season promises to be challenging whatever division we’re in.
“So look out for our announcements and get ready to help us compete over the next month at the same time as being fit and well for what’s yet to come.”
Weymouth finished third to secure a semi-final berth and will take on either Bath or Dorking for a final place. They too, though, have launched a fundraising campaign.
The club stress they are in a good financial place but will need additional funds to cover the costs of coronavirus testing and to be compliant with government regulations.
A statement read: “Based on the information we have been given by the league and the government, the additional costs are anticipated to be in the region of £50,000.
“I am sure you will appreciate without a crowd in the stadium and other matchday income this would leave a big void.
“If we are going to participate in the play-offs we need your help so we can remain competitive next season.”
