JUST A CASUAL STROLL, FREDDIE?

-

CORINTHIAN-CASUALS superfan Freddie Goddard received a hero’s welcome on finishing his amazing fundraising walk for the club last Sunday, writes John Lyons.

The ten-year-old walked around 13 miles from Crawley to Reigate Priory School along with his father, Clyde.

The four-and-a-half hour trek proved a test of endurance, but raising £1,100 for his favourite club was a rich reward.

So, too, was a great reception as he reached the end of his sponsored walk.

Proud dad Clyde said: “The manager James Bracken, club captain Danny Bracken, chairman and fans were waiting for us at the finish.

“They presented him with a book about when Corinthian-Casuals went to Brazil and a club baseball cap, while one of the former players sent him a text en route saying he would give him his training top from last season’s trip to Budapest. It’s typical of the club.”

Goddard junior was keen to raise money for the Isthmian Premier Division outfit as they, like all Non-League clubs, have been hit hard by the loss of revenue caused by the coronavirus crisis.

Clyde added: “I’ve been a QPR fan all my live, but I’ve fallen in love with the club and so has my son. He loves Non-League football.

“He’s never done a walk like that before, but he’d do it for Corinthian-Casuals. With two miles to go, he was struggling, but I said ‘think of Corinthian-Casuals’ and his face lit up.

“To have all those people at the finishing line was fantastic and I was so proud of him.

“I thought we would struggle to get to our initial target of £250 so we’re overwhelmed to have raised so much. We’ve even had fans from Corinthians in Brazil wishing him good luck!”
