The Non-League Football Paper

RAZOR CUTS IT AS CULT FIGURE

- By David Richardson

NEIL ‘Razor’ Ruddock loves the down-to-earth nature of Non-League football – and is excited to be a part of the newlook Enfield FC.

The former Liverpool, West Ham and England defender is fronting a fresh start for the E’s having joined the club’s board.

Ruddock – who recently revealed his heart stopped for seven seconds during surgery – has embraced lower-league football with his first involvement at Enfield coming in 2018 as a coach, alongside manager Matt Hanning.

Now he is taking on a new role upstairs as a director at the Essex Senior League side. “I’ve been around the lads for two or three years and it’s nice to be involved in football,” he told The NLP. “I love Non-League, I think it’s good, honest football. Everything we’re doing at the club is about going in the right direction. If we treat the players right then they’ll treat us right and then I’m sure we’ll get success.

“We’re trying to create a positive atmosphere and the chairman has a five-year plan which is sensible and reachable, other teams have done it, there’s no reason why we can’t.

“It’s great to be involved and the best thing about it is there’s no traffic getting out of games but hopefully in five years’ time there will be!”
