A WRIGHT ROAD TO RECOVERY AT HAWKS

- By David Richardson

TOMMY Wright says he is well on the road to recovery after suffering mental health issues – and has linked up with his old boss Paul Doswell at Havant & Waterlooville.

The highly-rated striker took a break from the game in February to focus on his health having been playing regularly for Sutton United.

Wright, 23, scored 20 goals in the 2017-18 season which earnt him the Young Player of the Year award at The NLP’s National Game Awards and an England C cap against the Republic of Ireland.

But the following season he suffered a cruciate ligament injury in his knee before returning, but finding the four-hour round trip to training difficult along with other situations in his personal life.

Now he is back with Doswell, who left Sutton in April 2019 and then took up the vacant role at Havant, and closer to home.

Wright said: “I now feel very much on the road to recovery and I can’t wait to get back on the football pitch again, it’s been too long.”
