POWERED PURPS POINTING THE WAY FORWARD

- By Alex Thrower

CITY of Liverpool have acquired the lease for a large new training facility at King George V Sports Complex in Huyton.

The Northern Premier League Division One West side only played their first ever match four years ago this week.

Now they say the new complex is a statement of intent from the Purps’ directors.

“Comprising a sports hall, boxing gym, all weather football pitches, grass football pitches, tennis courts and bowling greens, the management of this complex will be a significant undertaking for the club and will mark a transition to City of Liverpool FC becoming sevendays-a-week operation,” a club statement read.

“To be branded as PurpleHUB @ King George V, the complex will provide a training base for our first team as well as a home ground for the club’s community, junior, youth, veterans and legends teams.

“This significant milestone in the club’s development comes as the result of almost 12 months of hard work by club directors alongside Livv Housing Group and Knowsley Council.

“We look forward to continuing the partnerships that we have begun to establish as we work to secure capital investment to develop new facilities at the site.”

The Purps finished 17th in their first Step 4 campaign and chiefs hope the new facilities can help manager Craig Robinson develop a competitive side for the new season.

“PurpleHUB @King George V provides a reason to look forward with excitement and optimism,” the statement added. “Our club has never stood still or stopped looking for ways to develop and grow as a truly mutual community owned entity.”
