JORDAN HAS NO FEAR OF CONTEST

- By Alex Thrower

JORDAN Ngalo says it doesn’t matter who his Weymouth side face in their latest play-off campaign – he’s just set his sights on a second straight promotion.

The 21-year-old helped the Terras to the Southern League Premier South title last season before enjoying a memorable first season back at Step 2.

Mark Molesley’s men secured a creditable third place in National League South and will host the winners of this afternoon’s clash between Bath City and Dorking Wanderers.

Ngalo, however, says he has no preference on who they face and is just relieved the Dorset club have the opportunity to battle it out for promotion.

“It would have been a bit heart-breaking if we didn’t get the chance to play. To perform the way we have done, it’s great we have been given the chance,” the midfield ace told The NLP.

“It was probably a month after the season ended, we started to hear the league might be cancelled. None of us were sure what that really meant and initially there was disappointment but once we knew we’d be playing again, the mood changed. We’re all excited, we are very lucky to have the chance.

“There is a disadvantage to be playing a week after Dorking or Bath as they can get back to match fitness before us. Obviously, we will have extra time to master our craft and prepare, but it does still feel detrimental.

“You can’t pick and choose your opponents and we will be ready to face anyone who’s in front of us.”

Ngalo admits it has been strange returning to training in recent weeks – but says it will feel even more peculiar playing at the Bob Lucas Stadium without the home faithful cheering th Terras on.

“We’ve been back a couple of weeks now and at the start it was strange,” he added. “The testing is uncomfortable but you get used to it. Once we were able to resume contact training things felt a bit more normal. Everyone’s kept fit over lockdown – we needed something to do to fill the time!

“Playing behind closed doors will take away some pressure but it’s always nice to have the fans behind you.

“Being at home isn’t an advantage now which is a shame, having worked hard to have that right. It’s an even game now and we’re going to have to bring the twelfth man on to the pitch with us if they aren’t in the stadium.

“We just have to finish what we started and come next season the fans will be singing again.”
