GAFFER: PRAISE MY STAR TEAM – NOT ME

- By David Richardson

PROUD Mark Molesley refused to take the credit for yet more Weymouth success – and is now looking forward to taking on Non-League’s big boys. The 39-year-old has quickly become a club legend after steering the Terras to back-to-back promotions.

But he swiftly passed over the praise on his latest success to his players and staff.

“I’m so pleased for everyone at the football club,” he said. “So much hard work has gone on off the pitch to even get this game on.

“I’m obviously delighted but when the team wins the credit should go to the players.

“If you’re going to credit me with anything then it’s surrounding myself with great people and I’ve managed to do that with my staff and players.

“I’m hugely proud, I’ve been proud to manage this club from day one. To get it back to where it once was, was always our goal.

“We never shout things from the rooftops we try to go about our work quietly and we had full belief in ourselves. It’s a fantastic feeling. “Anyone who would have gone up through these play-offs would have deserved.

“I think all the teams in them are great teams, great management and all of them have been a credit to the Conference South. Anyone of them could have been promoted.”

The Weymouth players were heading to the seafront to celebrate and it won’t be long until they’re taking on fierce rivals Yeovil Town. “Everyone will be awaiting the fixture list to come out,” said Molesley.

“You can’t deny the fans are going to be looking forward to that Yeovil trip and that’s what we wanted to do, to get back and play against these other fantastic football clubs.

“It’s taken its toll on everyone and I think it’s time to enjoy tonight, reflect and then move on, we’ve got a big season ahead of us.”
