STEFF’S THE HEAD BOY FOR UNITED

PRE-SEASON ROUND-UP

- By Tom Blackett

BASFORD United kicked off their pre-season campaign with a dogged win over Kimberley Miners Welfare at Greenwich Avenue.

Steff Galinski scored the only goal of the game after 21 minutes when the defender found himself towering above the rest to head home Matt Thornhill’s deep corner.

Liam McDonald’s Rushall Olympic had a positive afternoon with a 2-0 triumph against Romulus. Sam Whittall opened from the spot in the first period after Nehemia Zazi was brought down in the box. A sumptuous free-kick from Alex Moore in the second half completed the job.

There were two hattricks as Bishop’s Stortford romped to a 10-1 win over Step 5 Enfield.

Tom Richardson and Louie Johnson both hit trebles. Franke Merrifield grabbed a double with Aaron Green and Darren Foxley completing the rout. Olly Miles scored Enfield’s only goal of the game.

Shaun Lucien fired a hat-trick of his own as Hendon beat Bracknell Town 4-2.

Isthmian Premier side Bowers & Pitsea saw off Essex Senior League side Hashtag United 3-1, while Tyrell Mitford scored two in the second-half as Step 4 Ramsgate beat K Sports 4-0.

Buxton have been making waves with their summer signings – with former AFC Fylde midfielder Andy Bond the latest arrival. The NPL side held National League North outfit Curzon Ashton to a goalless draw.

Dunston UTS were worthy winners against fellow north-east side North Shields. Jack Elliott capitalised on a weak backpass to put the Fed ahead on 42 minutes. Scott Heslop added two in the second-half to complete a 3-0 win.
