STALEMATE FOR REDS AND GATE

- By Alex Thrower

REDDITCH and Highgate shared the spoils in an entertaining 2-2 draw.

The Midland Football League visitors took the lead midway through the first half when Guy Clark headed in a corner.

The lead lasted four minutes with James Harrison glancing home.

Redditch striker Dan Sweeney won and then converted a penalty five minutes before the break.

Clark assisted forward Lei Brown in the second half, who equalised from eight yards.

A first-half hat-trick for Aldershot Town’s trialist striker helped the Shots to a 4-1 win at Ascot United.

Poaching his first goal on 50 seconds, trialist A bundled in a second on 38 minutes and got his treble with a close-range header three minutes later.

The Shots had also missed a fifth-minute penalty and later hit the crossbar as the Yellamen struggled to contain the National League side’s greater pace and power.

Ed Jabbari’s penalty gave the hosts hope but it was a neat 18-yard snapshot from another of Danny Searle’s trialists that completed the scoring. Southport thumped Longridge Town 9-2 at the Mike Riding Ground, a George Newell hat-trick completing the rout.

Havant and Waterlooville came from behind to win 3-1 at AFC Totton.

Joe Iaciofano scored a brace on debut before a Havant trialist bagged a marvellous third. Isthmian South Bracknell Town stunned National League South Slough Town with a 4-0 victory at Larges Lane, while Leamington fell to a 1-0 defeat at Aston Villa’s training ground. Tonbridge Angels ran out 4-1 winners at Lewes, with Alex Akrofi starting his second spell at the club

with a brace and Stalybridge Celtic claimed a 4-0 victory over West Didsbury & Chorlton.
