NOVO’S SUCH A BIGG HIT!

-

CRISTIAN Colás believes high-profile new signing Nacho Novo will be just as valuable off the pitch for Biggleswade United than on it.

The Spartan South Midlands League Premier side, run by Spanish football journalist and Sky pundit Guillem Balagué, have pulled off an impressive coup by luring the former Rangers star.

The 41-year-old last played for Glentoran in 2017 but has dusted off his boots once more. “With it being Guillem Balagué’s club anything can happen in a week!”

Colás told The NLP. “He phoned me and said would you like to have him on board and I was like of course!

“Of course, he’s not the same player who was competing ten years ago in Glasgow but at this level a player like him he will give always something in addition.

“I said to the players if I had the chance to share a changing room with someone of his profile I would be very delighted and second I would question and ask almost everything.

“Everything he says in a practical way is a bit for our players. I think he’s really worth as much off the pitch as on it.”

Novo played 52 minutes in United’s FA Cup victory on penalties over Woodbridge Town in midweek and quickly fitted in.

“He’s a really humble guy, he was really happy after the game,” added Colás. “He gave us his best 50 minutes after two years not competing.

“He was encouraging everyone from the sidelines, he was jumping like a child when we won on penalties and he was involved with the lads.”
