TRICKY RICKY SO CHUFFED WITH COBBLERS CHANCE

-

RICKY Korboa admits he ‘can’t wait’ to get stuck in at Northampton Town after earning his dream move into the EFL from Carshalton Athletic.

On Tuesday it was announced that the attacker had joined the Cobblers, who won the League Two play-offs last term, for an undisclosed fee on an initial one-year contract.

It means he is leaping up four divisions from Isthmian

Premier Carshalton, who have nurtured him since his youth team days.

“I’ve very excited and I’m just grateful for the opportunity I’ve been given,” said Korboa, who turned 24 last month.

“When I came in on trial I was a bit nervous at first, but then I did what I needed to do. Everyone was very welcoming which helped.

“I’m looking forward to playing in League One and the cup matches – it’s a new challenge for me.”

Like his old Robins teammate Mickel Miller, Korboa stressed the importance of the role Carshalton played in his development.

“I think what helped was that they gave me the freedom to play and express myself,” he told The NLP. “That gave me more confidence to go out and do what I do best and showcase myself. I feel each manager has helped me that way.

“The experience I’ve gained will help me now that I’m going to be playing against stronger and fitter players. The higher you go, the fitter, sharper and stronger your opponents are.

“A few years ago I wasn’t as clued on, but I’ve got a lot better mentally and physically. There’s still a long way to go.”

As for his top memories from his Carshalton days, Korboa, who can play up front or out wide, picks out two.

“Winning the league (Isthmian South Division) a couple of years ago and last season’s FA Cup run,” he said. “Beating a National League side in Dagenham & Redbridge was great. They were a good side, but we played well and deserved to win.”
