DANILO Orsi-Dadomo netted his second brace of the week as Maidenhead United recovered from twice being pegged back to edge this battle of play-off hopefuls.

The in-form Magpies front man added to his double against Yeovil on Wednesday night with another two-goal show at The Shay, sandwiching a Kieran Green header for Halifax.

A second-half effort from Tom Bradbury header restored parity for a second time before Josh Coley sealed the points for the visitors four minutes from time.

Victory lifted Alan Devonshire’s men to sixth in the table – two points off second with two games in hand – leaving the wily boss to lavish praise on his men.

“We are delighted to get the win,” Devonshire said.

“It was quite a scrappy game but it is very pleasing to see us take our chances and punish Halifax.”

Defeat, however, sees FC Halifax just outside the play-off places and manager Pete Wild couldn’t hide his disappointment after his side defended so resolutely in the 0-0 draw at Wrexham on Tuesday.

“It was very disappointing defeat,” he added. “We have gifted them the lead and it’s some poor defending that had let us down today. It is a bit of a slap in the face after I praised the players for last Saturday and Tuesday.

Maidenhead took the lead on 24 minutes, somewhat against the run of play. A pin-point long ball from James Comley picked out Orsi-Dadomo, who found himself in space and produced a dinked finish to beat Sam Johnson.

Halifax, though, created a number of clear-cut chances of their own before forcing an equaliser on 38 minutes. Jeff King’s freekick picked out Green, who found the bottom corner brilliantly with a controlled header.

Just when they looked like taking parity into the break, the Magpies restored the lead. A corner from Comley was met by the head of Sam Barratt, with the winger seeing his header cannon back off the crossbar, however it fell right into the path of Orsi-Dadomo, who could not miss from a yard out.

Jamie Allen went closest to levelling again for the Shaymen until they eventually got their break 12 minutes from time – King’s corner again flicked on by Green to Bradbury, who’s header bounced off the underside of the crossbar and just over the line.

Still, Maidenhead kept coming and it was they who found a winner four minutes from time. when Barratt’s cross from the right picked out Coley at the back post, who beat Johnson at the second time of asking.

Halifax continued to push with a low shot from Green flying inches wide of the post, but that was as close as they came.
