Whites hit Quig as a flash by Joe
YEOVIL TOWN came from behind at Huish Park to secure their fifth win in seven matches as a Joe Quigley double and Rhys Murphy finish gave them all three points.
It could have been even better for the Glovers, but Oliver Webber saved Quigley’s late penalty, with the striker unable to secure his hat-trick.
But Yeovil Manager Darren Sarll was delighted with his side’s performance in their first home match in 27 days – particularly his forward line.
He said: “That is probably one of the youngest sides I have put out. You get that wonderful energy and exuberance with that and I thought we were by far the better team.
“He (Quigley) was a disgrace Wednesday and I told him that, but he has a wonderful opportunity to refine his trade at this football club.
“He isn’t half a handful and Murphy came on and looked like Murphy again. I was pleased with all three of the strikers today.”
It was Dover Athletic who took the lead after 14 minutes when their training ground corner kick routine found Ryan Hanson in the box. His initial shot was saved by Adam Smith, but Ade Azeez made no mistake with the follow up putting the Whites into the ascendency.
The visitors continued to have the better of the first half but just before half time, Yeovil hit back through their top scorer Quigley. They hit the Whites on the break and Reuben Reid played an inch perfect ball into the box and Quigley slotted home.
The centre forward started the second half as he ended the first latching on to a through ball from Alex Bradley on 52 minutes.
The striker took full advantage of Webber’s poor positioning and headed the home side into the lead for his seventh of the season and second of the afternoon.
It was then one-way traffic from there with Rhys
Murphy only having to be on the field for 60 seconds before he combined with Josh Neufville and struck a poacher’s finish into the top corner.
Murphy was then fouled less than ten minutes later by Webber inside the box, but the goalkeeper made amends when he saved Quigley’s penalty.
Dover Manager Andy Hessenthaler felt conceding just before half time gave them too much to do.
Hessenthaler said: “I am very disappointed with the three sloppy goals we gave away.
“That is why we are where we are. Teams haven’t earned goals, we have given them to them. To concede that late on in the first half is really disappointing.
“There have been too many individual errors which have cost us.
“We plan and speak to individuals and tell them to learn from mistakes and unfortunately, they aren’t learning from them at the moment.
“We looked tired today and I think there were some really heavy legs out there.”
