POINT MORE EN-DEERING FOR 10-MAN SPIREITES!

- By Daniel Bennett Haydn Hollis (Chesterfield) ENTERTAINMENT: REFEREE: Tom Reeves

A SAM Deering wonder strike salvaged a point for Dagenham & Redbridge against a resilient Chesterfield side, who played with 10 men for a full 80 minutes.

The Spireites had lost just one of the last eight National League games but their task got a lot harder when Tom Whelan received a straight red card for a high boot on Callum Reynolds.

Despite being a man down, the away side took the lead when Will Evans found the bottom corner with a powerful strike after Dagenham had failed to properly clear George Carline’s long throwin.

A mix up between Luke Croll and Elliot Justham almost presented Marcus Dinanga with the chance to add a second soon after but Reynolds was able to get in the way of his strike with Justham off of his line.

But the Daggers were soon level when Scott Wilson tapped in Andy Eleftherious’s low, driven cross from close range following some fantastic build-up play.

Indeed, Eleftheriou’s delivery continued to cause the away side problems as he found Paul McCallum with a great cross but the striker could only head straight at goalkeeper Adam Przybek.

But Dagenham struggled to deal with Chesterfield’s set pieces at the other end – Evans smashing over after a corner was not defended well enough.

Chesterfield regained the lead five minutes before the break when Haydn Hollis beat Myles Weston to the ball and brought it down brilliantly following another long throw-in from Carline and found Akwasi Asante via a deflection, who had the simple task of tapping in from close range.

Deering was introduced for the Daggers at the break and almost levelled matters immediately when his low strike from distance was tipped onto the post expertly by Przybek.

But, minutes later, Deering did have the equaliser with a wonderful, curling strike from outside of the box which flew past Przybek and into the top right corner.

The Spireites almost took the lead again just before the hour mark when Evans slid in at the back post to get a touch on Carline’s delivery but could only poke wide.

Dagenham went agonisingly close to going ahead on 67 minutes when McCallum headed Eleftherious’s cross onto the post from a couple of yards out, with Brundle then dragging an effort from distance wide.

Wilson had a glorious chance to win the game for Dagenham with three minutes left as he raced clear on goal but side-footed his shot from a tight angle wide of the goal.

Deering was the next to go close for his side late on, unleashing a dipping strike at goal from 30 yards out which whistled just over the crossbar as Chesterfield secured a well-earned point on the road.
