BLAZERS WILL NOT RUSH TO REPLACE REVELLERS

- By Robin Jones

ST BLAZEY are to take their time in selecting a new management team to replace the one sacked for breaking Covid-19 regulations by holding a Christmas party.

Joint managers Matt Hayden and Shaun Vincent – along with firstteam coach Kev Kendall and a number of players – were given their marching orders by the South West Peninsula League club after they were involved in the late-night gathering at an AirBnB in Plymouth on December 19-20.

While their season remains suspended, the club, sitting in 16th placewith three wins from their eight matches played so far this season, will not rush to find replacements following the enforced mass exodus.

Chairman Martin Richards said: “The club committee has decided that it is in the best interest of the club to appoint a new management team for the 2021/22 season.

“The club committee felt they had been left in a very difficult situation and had little option but to make the change for the good of the club.

“However, the club would like to thank Matt and Shaun for everything they have done for the club, from seeing our return to the South West Peninsula League top division, building a competitive side, and our exciting FA vase run this season where we narrowly lost to Helston on penalties.

“We must also thank the players for their efforts including the work they put in to renovate the changing rooms especially Lewis Vooght, Brodie Cole and Matt Edwards. The club will now take some time to decide the best way forward.”

Richards’ statement did not say how many players have been shown the red card by the club, but it has been claimed that “around 20” people from St Blazey had been present at the Westminster Suite which overlooks the city’s Barbican.

A video clip now widely shared online purports to show team members being asked to leave the self-caring apartment at around 1.30am on the Sunday, as a heated exchange broke out with other guests.

Details of the incident were passed to police by the Cornwall FA.
