JERRY WILTSHIRE’S injury time goal rescued a point for Maidenhead in a classic game of two halves.

Trailing to first-half goals from Luke Coulson and Michael Cheek, Maidenhead turned the tables on their hosts with a strong second half performance that saw them get their reward with goals from Ryan Upward and Wiltshire.

Magpies manager, Alan Devonshire was in no doubt about the Jekyll and Hyde nature of his team’s performance.

He said: “We were awful first half, it was like we hadn’t played with each other before. The second we were really good, I told them to get tighter and get around them and you’ll get rewards and we saw how that played out.”

The opening goal of the game was a fortuitous one, Manny Parry and Taye Ashby-Hammond failed to deal with a routine long ball and Luke Coulson was on hand to sidefoot into an empty net to give Bromley the lead.

With a goal lead Bromley proceeded to dominate the first half, Courtney Duffus and Jack Holland both headed over crosses from Coulson before they got their second through Cheek. The National League top scorer slotting in after excellent work from Duffus.

Ashby-Hammond then had to be at his best to deny Cheek a second before Billy Bingham hit the post with a well struck effort from distance.

Bromley came close to a third moments after the restart but Duffus could only shoot straight at Ashby-Hammond and Bromley were made to pay for that miss a minute later.

George Wells inch perfect cross was headed home by an unmarked Upward to hand Maidenhead a lifeline.

Upward had a chance to level the game just after the hour mark but headed Dan Sparkes cross just over the crossbar.

Having ridden the storm Bromley then had chances to put the game to bed. Duffus shot over from a Coulson through ball, Jack Bridge worked space in the box before shooting over but the best chance came two minutes from time.

Cheek was put through on goal by James Alabi but he shot into the side netting when well set.

Maidenhead took full advantage of that miss in the first minute of injury time, substitute Wiltshire turning in Josh Coley’s cross to hand Maidenhead a share of the points.

Frustrated Bromley manager Neil Smith said: “I wanted a reaction from Tuesday and they gave me that, but two lapses in concentration cost us.

“First half we were dominant and outstanding going forward but you can never switch off against an Alan Devonshire side.

“The first goal was the killer as we never closed down the cross nor covered the far post and that is indefensible. From there we let them have a sniff.”
