CARDS ACE JUST JAMAR-VELLOUS!

Linnets put to sword by Loza

- By Peter Moore

JAMAR Loza was the star of the show as Woking returned to winning ways. The former Linnets man scored, assisted and put on an overall show which tortured his former employers all afternoon. And Cards boss Alan Dowson reckons Loza is showing his value. Dowson said: “With Jamar he has scored three goals now and he is starting to show why we paid a little bit of money for him and why he is worth his eighteen month contract.” Dowson bolstered his attacking options in midweek by adding Sam Ashford and Niko Muir to his squad and both on-loan strikers went straight into the starting line-up. But it was King’s Lynn – who earlier this week had to furlough six players including their two leading scorers Adam Marriott and Dayle Southwell – who created the first chance when Michael Gash’s header hit the bar before Cameron King’s rebound was blocked. The Cards’ debutants combined when Ashford’s flick-on to Muir saw the striker’s shot saved by Archie Mair. The deadlock was broken in the 28th minute when excellent work from Loza down the right-hand side turned his man inside out before sending in a deep cross with an unmarked Ashford producing a powerful downward header into the net. Loza was causing all sorts of problems to Lynn in the opening half and almost doubled Woking’s advantage shortly before half time when. in the box, he turned two players inside out before sending a curling shot inches away. Woking stopper Craig Ross was called into action for the first time to save from Kairo Mitchell, but it was that man Loza who came within a whisker of giving Woking a second goal. He cut inside the area and unleashed a thunderous shot which cannoned off the post with Mair beaten. Woking were aggrieved by a decision in the 66th minute from a corner when a Ben Gerring header hit the woodwork with the rebound falling to Jayden Wareham who appeared to stab the ball home, only for the assistant referee to rule the ball hadn’t crossed the line. The visitors responded with their best chance of the half when Chris Smith should have done better with a header six yards out. The Cards doubled their advantage late on when Wareham forced an error in the Linnets back line with the youngster squaring the ball for Loza who tapped in. And with seconds remaining it was 3-0 when Gerring slotted home. Dowson added: “I thought we didn’t settle down until we scored the goal. Once we scored we settled down a lot and I’m glad to get the three points.”
