THE NON-LEAGUE PAPER,

SEAN SHIELDS scored twice in a minute to help cap a four-goal show from Weymouth at the expense of a disappointing Wealdstone at the Bob Lucas Stadium.

Shields’ late brace completed a fine all-round display from Brian Stock’s Terras and added to goals either side of the break from captain Josh McQuoid and full-back Brennan Camp.

And it was met with much praise from a rookie boss Stock, who described it as “the most complete performance” in his time at the club.

“The organisation, discipline, the intensity to go and press, winning the game 4-0, I can’t ask for anymore,” he said.

“I feel like was coming. that result Sometimes, though, the players need more belief that we can play at that level.”

After coming close moments before, the Terras snatched the lead in the 21st minute. Andy Dallas went charging down the left wing and played the ball into the oncoming Shields inside the area. The winger crossed the ball back in from the byline across the face of goal where McQuoid headed home, leaving keeper Harry Istead with no chance.

Wealdstone, however, were still playing their part in an end-to-end encounter and they went close to an equaliser on 25 minutes when Jacob Mendy threaded a ball through to Dennon Lewis, who angled his body to unleash a shot with his right foot but defender Dominic Revan came out of nowhere to put a foot in and block the shot.

The Terras were always in the ascedency, however, and it was no real surprise when they doubled their lead on 58 minute.

Shields whipped a cross into the box which was not cleared, the ball looped over to Camp at the back post and his volley flew past a helpless Isted – his first goal for the Terras.

By now the Terras had their tails up and they went three goals up on 82 minutes – McQuoid threading a pass through to Shields, who carried the ball into the box and slotted his shot across the face of goal past Isted.

Seconds later, it was four – McQuoid this time through on goal, Isted came out well to deny the Terras skipper but the ball came back into the McQuoid’s path on the byline. He managed to cross the ball back in which was cleared off the line by Riley Harbottle but the clearance only came as far as Shields, who volleyed in the effort acrobatically into an open net.

Honest Stones boss Stuart Maynard spoke of his side’s performance after the game, adding: “We weren’t at the races from minute one.

“We looked leggy and didn’t compete. They were first to everything.

“It’s not acceptable from where we’ve come from and the standards we’ve set ourselves in the last four to five weeks have been outstanding. We will address it now.

“It’s what they deservethey were way better than us, whether it was a 4-0 game or not. We got what we deserved from our sheer lack of work ethic.”
