DON’T DISMISS RUSK’S HATTERS

-

CRUNCH time in the National League – it’s the tightest title race I’ve covered since joining BT Sport eight years ago.

Torquay United still have to play Stockport County, while Sutton United still have to host Hartlepool United.

It goes without saying those are crucial games and it will likely come down to how they do against each other with other games winnable.

Sutton had clawed back a lot of points on Torquay, who then went through a barren spell and you think they would settle for a play-off place. Now they’ve turned it round dramatically where, in midweek, the pendulum swung back their way. It is going to be very tight.

With the teams playing each other, it’s impossible to win every game.

We’ll be showing their big game with Stockport County next Sunday. They had the day off this weekend after a huge result against FC Halifax last weekend. Four clean sheets in four and scoring freely. The squad there has an abundance of talent.

It’s probably the strongest squad in the league now and now they seem to really be taking the message of manager Simon Rusk on board now. They have a real identity now – they pass the ball well and are a good team to watch.

If they don’t go up this season then they will have to be overwhelming favourites when next season kicks off.

Are they the outsiders? It’s a tough call because they are coming through so strong and after yesterday’s results Sutton again have their fate in their own hands.

I daren’t take my eyes off this title race.
