CORR IS MOVED UP BUT SAINTS GET GILL

- By Chris Dunlavy

BARRY Corr has left his job as manager of St Neots Town to take up a coaching role at Cambridge United – with U’s academy chief Pete Gill heading in the other direction.

Since the curtailment of St Neots’ season in February, Corr had been working with the U’s first team, which unexpectedly won automatic promotion to League One under Mark Bonner.

Now Corr has accepted an offer to make the move permanent, bringing an end to a disrupted twoyear stay at Rowley Park.

“We are delighted that Barry’s position in the first team has been made permanent and that he will continue to work with myself and (assistant) Gary Waddock as we move into a new season,” said Bonner.

“Barry’s input in the first-team environment at the training ground has been excellent and as we plan our coaching programme for next season, he will take on more responsibilities and continue to be a big influence and character with the team. This completes a strong set of coaches and Barry is another positive, strong character who cares deeply for the club on our talented backroom staff.”

The two clubs have a strong link with a number of Cambridge’s development players getting experience at the Southern League club.

By way of compensation, Gill will now combine his full-time job as head of coaching at the Abbey with a part-time role as St Neots boss.

Previously with Leyton Orient and Barnet, Gill has also coached at Hemel Hempstead Town and has pledged to retain the open and offensive ethos instilled by Corr.

He said: “It is a great time to take over with the impending expected return of the Saints fans in pre-season and I look forward to meeting you all very soon.”
