WREXHAM PUT POOR LINNETS TO THE SWORD

- By Greg Plummer

KING’S Lynn Town’s woeful home form shows no signs of ending after they were torn apart by an efficient Wrexham outfit at The Walks.

The Linnets opened the scoring when Michael Clunan put them ahead early on before Aaron Hayden headed in his third goal of the season to level.

Lynn were very much in the game until after half-time but individual errors and injury cost the Norfolk side dearly as the Red Dragons ran riot in the second half.

Jordan Davies, Paul Mullin and Jordan Ponticelli all netted after the break and although Malachi Linton pulled one back for the Linnets,

Daniel

Jarvis and Cameron Green both tapped in late on to seal a comprehensive victory.

Deflated Linnets boss Ian Culverhouse said: “We’re not learning from our mistakes and that’s down to me. Today it was like a catalogue of errors and that’s not good enough.

“We were excellent in the first half but obviously I’m not coaching the players well enough for them to get over their errors.

“We need to learn very quickly or we are going to be in desperate trouble. I’m asking the players to play a certain way perhaps that’s not the right idea.”

The hosts were in front completely against the run of play on 12 minutes, however – Clunan playing a one-two with Malachi Linton and running into space to shot low past Dibble.

Wrexham’s equaliser arrived courtesy of Aaron Hayden’s head midway through the half.

Hayden almost gifted Lynn a second on the stroke of half-time, when he chested beyond Dibble, but he was strong enough to retrieve the loose ball and Lynn were unable to take advantage of a rare moment of Wrexham generosity.

Davies fired Wrexham in front eight minutes into the second-half.

All of Lynn’s good work was completely undone shortly after as Ponticelli put pressure on Bird high up the pitch and his under-hit backpass allowed the prolific Mullin to do the rest.

With Wrexham well on top again, Bird’s afternoon then went from bad to worse on 77 minutes when he pulled up while in a foot race with Mullin for a loose ball.

With the defender down, Wrexham had numbers lining up at the back post to retrieve Mullin’s pass and it was Ponticelli who registered his third goal in as many games.

Malachi Linton capitalised on some slack defending on 86 minutes to tap in a consolation for the hosts.

But Wrexham weren’t finished with yet – James Jones stealing possession on the edge of the box and squaring unselfishly for Jarvis to tap in the fifth.

Deep into stoppage time, Ponticelli fired a low effort across goal which Green finished to wrap up a stunning victory. STAR MAN: Paul Mullin (Wrexham) ATT: 1,070 ENTERTAINMENT: ★★★★★ REFEREE: Robert Massey Ellis
