JAMES’ MOORS CHORES BRING REWARD

- By Andy Mitchell

JAMES Clarke’s chart-topping Solihull Moors debut should be put to the tune of a famous Craig David song.

Signed on loan on Sunday, the Mansfield Town full-back trained in borrowed boots on Monday and grabbed an assist six minutes into his debut on Tuesday.

It helped threadbare Moors end a five-match winless run with a 2-0 National League win over Grimsby Town with Clarke showing no signs of stagefright in a back four that lost the services of key defender Callum Howe after 20 minutes.

“I got the call on Sunday night and met all the lads for the first time on Monday,” the 21-year-old said. “This is my first loan experience and it happening so quickly was probably better for me, I didn’t really have time to think about anything, I was just chucked straight in at the deep end.

“On Monday I even had to borrow someone’s boots because mine were still in Mansfield.

“It was sheer enjoyment getting back out on the pitch and playing again. Whether I am assisting goals or the team is getting them another way, I just love winning and if I am involved then even better.”

Clarke has joined Moors for a month and hopes to see plenty more action to kickstart his campaign – wherever that may take him.

“I really enjoyed playing again this week and the aim is to get plenty of game time,” he added. “Tuesday was massive for me, a tough battle, but I got told I covered a lot of distance which was great.

“If I do well here over the next few weeks then you never know what might happen, opportunities might open up elsewhere but for now I am just going to do my best for Solihull.

“I feel lucky to be here and hopefully we can keep putting on good performances for the fans.”
