GOLDEN BAND OF BROTHERS

- By David Richardson

PROUD dad Stewart Woolley had a weekend to remember after his four sons all scored on the same day!

Their footballing family were celebrating last Saturday when brothers Matt, Joe, Jack and Harrison netted in victories.

Jack, 28, scored first for Lostock Gralam in their MidCheshire FA Cup group stage fixture against Winnington Avenue 94 Reserves.

Then, 16-year-old Harrison came off the bench to make his senior debut and completed the scoring in Lostock’s 3-0 victory.

Meanwhile, Matthew and Joe were impressing for 1874 Northwich in their Northern Premier League West fixture at Trafford.

Winger Joe, 25, netted just after half-time to put them 2-1 up before club captain Matt, 31, rounded off a 5-2 victory with a late penalty.

Dad Stewart was cheering on 1874 from the terraces as his family’s dream Saturday played out.

Surreal

“At Lostock, Step 7, they kick off early at 2pm,” he told The NLP. “So I’d seen on twitter that Jack had scored and then Harrison had come on and scored too, he has a great left foot on him.

“Joe scored a great goal for 1874 but it was disallowed, although he scored again five minutes later. So then I was wondering if Matt could complete the set!

“He missed a good chance and I thought that was the moment, but we got a penalty with four minutes to go and he takes them, and put it away. It was a surreal day.”

Matt, Joe and Jack, eight years ago, once turned out for Knutsford and all scored in a 3-0 win.

Since then, Matt has played over 300 matches for 1874 while Joe has recovered from two cruciate ligament knee injuries and rediscovered his form.

Cloud nine

Jack has also played for the Greens but it’s now the turn of youngster Harrison to show what he can do. It’s made choosing who to watch on a Saturday afternoon all the more difficult for dad Stewart.

“It’s really hard to decide – and last weekend was classic,” he said. “I’d spoken to the manager of Lostock on the Thursday evening. I asked how Harrison had been doing because he’d gone down there with Jack.

“He said on Saturday they’d have a lot of people out injured or unavailable and that he might put Harrison in the squad. He said if we’re comfortably winning there’s a chance he might get on.

“I knew Jack would be playing for Lostock but I went to Trafford because it’s a lovely set up and Matt and Joe would be starting.

“Sometimes I’ll watch the first half at Lostock and then shoot off to 1874 and watch them at 3pm. On Sunday mornings Harrison still plays in the U16s league too. He scored four goals last Sunday and was walking on cloud nine! I love football and it’s great they do too.”
