MET AND NOMADS TO MEET IN FINAL

WELSH ROUND-UP

- By Rob Cole

CARDIFF Met and Connah’s Quay Nomads – the last two winners of the Nathaniel MG Cup – will face off in this season’s final after winning their semi-final ties.

Three goals in the space of seven minutes steered Nomads home as they hit the back of Bala Town’s

net four times at Maes Tegid.

Craig Harrison’s side had to hit back after going a goal down, but stormed through in the second half to stay on course to defend they title they won back in 2020.

Bala showed they had learned some of the lessons they were handed out when the two teams had last met in the JD Cymru Premier League three weeks earlier. On that occasion the Nomads won 4-0.

There wasn’t much to choose between Cardiff Met and Barry Town United in the second semi-final at Cyncoed, but after a scrappy start, Jordan Cotterill rushed through and audaciously chipped Met keeper Alex Lang to open the scoring.

The lead was lost when Lewis Rees was hacked at by Barry’s Aron Davies to give the students a penalty. Up stepped Adam Roscrow and in went the equaliser.

Emlyn Lewis then edged the home side in front with a header from a corner and Met were on their way to a third win over the Linnets this season. Evans made it 3-1 in the second half when he fired home an effort from the edge of the box after finding himself in acres of space.

Barry turned up the heat in the dying minutes and, after Roscrow had a goal chalked off, Nat Jarvis cut the gap in the second minute of added time.

Airbus UK Broughton

stretched their lead at the top of the JD Cymru North table to five points thanks to a routine 3-0 win at lowly

Llangefni Town.

The home side were masters of their own downfall as they coughed up an own goal after 35 minutes and then went down to 10 men soon afterwards when Iwan Jones was shown a red card.

Up until then things had been fairly even on a difficult night for football, but as soon as they got their noses in front the league leaders displayed their ruthless side. Jake Eyre doubled the lead in the 68th minute and Beau Cornish finished off the job with a third in the 89th.

In the JD Cymru South, there were eight goals, three red cards and a penalty in a 5-3 win for Ammanford over Trefelin at the Recreation Ground.

The win for the home side allowed them to leapfrog their visitors and move up to ninth.

There were two goals for hot-shot Tristan Jenkins to take him level with Llantwit Major’s Tom Walters on 16 league goals this season and two more for Matt Fisher.
