GEORDIES RACK UP A DOZEN

- By Mark Stillman

HANWELL Town joint-boss Chris Moore admitted he would have taken a hardfought 1-0 win in the Middlesex derby at Staines Town on Tuesday, night – but instead they smashed TWELVE without reply.

The London Geordies ran riot at Wheatsheaf Park with nine players on target in their biggest ever Pitching In Isthmian Division One South Central success.

And this was after the two sides played out an 11-goal thriller in September, where Hanwell recovered from 4-0 down to beat the Swans 6-5.

“If you told me there would be another 12 goals in this game I’d have shuddered,” laughed Moore, who turned 42 on Thursday. “It wouldn’t have been good for the heart rate if it was like the other one!

“We saw an opportunity to get some goals. For us it’s three points and fantastic for the goal difference in a tight league.

“I’ve lost 9-0 at home live on Sky with Dagenham so I know what it’s like to be on the receiving end. We didn’t want to rub it in afterwards.”

Having raced into a 5-0 half-time lead, which included a missed penalty, Hanwell showed no mercy after the break.

“Carts (Wayne Carter, joint manager) said to the boys at half-time – lots of teams will switch off now and just coast through it,” said Moore. “But we both said we will learn more about this group in the second half if they can be relentless and keep up that tempo.

“There’s a good vibe about the place, there always has been, it’s never been a concern of mine. Winning 12-0 is only going to help that.

“I believe it’s Hanwell’s record win, which is good because we’ve already broken a couple of records by getting the furthest we ever have in the FA Cup and Trophy. Hopefully we can continue moving forward and maybe pick up a few more big wins along the way!”
