PARKWAY ARE UNDONE BY MOORS’ LATE SHOW

- By Jack Franks STAR MAN: Luke Spokes (Spennymoor) ENTERTAINMENT: ★★★★★ REFEREE: Tom Kirk

THREE goals in the final five minutes ensured Spennymoor Town avoided a shock FA Trophy exit at the hands of a spirited Plymouth Parkway in an absorbing and, at times, disbelieving tie.

Parkway led for the majority of the contest through Tom Bath’s composed finish, with Moors squandering a series of golden chances.

But just when it looked like Step 4 Parkway would pull off another huge upset, Moors found another gear.

Luke Spokes buried a low effort through a sea of bodies to level on 85 minutes, Rob Ramshaw turned in from close range minutes later to put the home side in front before Glen Taylor put the icing on the cake with a terrific individual finish.

Parkway, backed by an impressive following of supporters given the mammoth

800 mileround trip, struggled to get to grips with Moors’ fast paced start and were thankful to keeper Kyle Moore on 19 minutes when he got down to deny Taylor’s header.

Parkway began to grow into the contest and it was they who took a shock lead just before the half hour. A turnover of possession allowed a pass to find Jack Crago and when he delivered a low pass into Callum Hall, he found substitute Bath who slid an accurate shot into the bottom corner.

Bath had another chance to score ten minutes later and this prompted Moors to up the ante.

Ramshaw should have equalised after rounding goalkeeper Moore but, with the goal gaping, saw his tame effort cleared by Callum Rose.

Moors keeper Jordan Amissah kept the home side in it with a fine one-handed save to deny Mikey Williams, but it was the hosts who were on the front foot.

Adriano Moke squandered a gilt-edge chance, with a blazed effort over the bar while defender Kenton Richardson directed a free header straight at the grateful Moore with the goal gaping.

Eventually, however, Parkway’s resistance was finally broken seven minutes from time. A corner was headed away only as far as Spokes, with the midfielder on loan from Grimsby keeping his composure to find the bottom corner.

The Brewery Field was suddenly alive with noise from the home end and Moors capitalised on a tiring Parkway side to turn the game on its head almost from the restart.

It was another corner which did the damage, with the ball deflecting towards Ramshaw who turned in from on the goal line, sparking wild celebrations heavily tinged with a huge sense of relief.

A Parkway side who were zapped of energy suddenly looked vulnerable with every Spennymoor attach and the polish was applied to the score line when Taylor cleverly span his marker before curling a shot into the far corner.
