BUILDING A FUTURE FOR THE WINNING TOP TEN

- By Jon Couch

TEN lucky Non-League clubs have benefitted from a £10,000 bursary from builders’ merchants Buildbase towards building materials to improve their facilities.

Following their application to the Buildbase NonLeague Club Renovation programme, Mossley, Tiverton Town, Tooting and Mitcham United, Prescot Cables, Bishops Stortford, Fleet Spurs, Sandbach United, Harrowby United and Amersham Town have all been selected.

The nine were chosen from a panel of Buildbase judges based on the projects they deemed would deliver the greatest benefits to the club and their local community.

The tenth prize went to London Lions, who scored the most public votes and automatically secured the club a winning ‘golden ticket’. The Lions plan to renovate their changing rooms.

Elsewhere, Mossley will use the bursary to build a toilet block for use by fans on matchdays and for community events, while Tiverton will revamp their kitchen to provide matchday refreshments.

Tooting & Mitcham plan to build additional changing rooms to improve accessibility to girls’ and disability football, similarly Prescot Cables and Step 6 Fleet Spurs.

Bishops Stortford will use the bursary to give their 20-year-old toilet block a complete makeover, while Sandbach United will also extend their kitchen to offer more variety and healthier eating options to visitors.

Harrowby United too plan to refurbish their kitchen to help enable use for community groups and Amersham Town will renew and extend their 50-year-old kitchen to complement the recently refurbished clubhouse.

Buildbase Procurement Director Martin Bull said: “We had a huge response to our renovation competition. The winning clubs did a fantastic job of explaining how the bursary would be used and the effects of that on the wider community as well as on their ability to run as a business.

“We look forward to seeing how these projects play out over the coming months.”
