HOWE’S ABOUT A LATE TWIST!

- By Andy Mitchell

CALLUM Howe’s late leveller completed Solihull’s comeback from two down against secondbottom King’s Lynn in a tense clash that left neither manager happy.

Centre-half Howe, thrown up front in the final stages, crashed in at the far post Ryan Barnett’s swirling centre to deny the plucky Linnets victory two minutes from time.

Munashe Sundire, a driving force for the visitors, seized upon Joe Sbarra’s loose pass and guided to Malachi Linton who blasted into the roof of the net 10 minutes in.

Lynn sat deep but carried the greater threat on the break and took advantage of another error early in the second half, Luis Fernandez bundling in a near-post corner that was misjudged by keeper Ryan Boot.

Moors manager Neal Ardley made a double change with Jamey Osborne thriving in the quarter-back-style role to help the hosts lay siege.

Alex Gudger forced inside the far post a corner that had flicked off a

King’s Lynn head but despite dominating, Solihull were denied clear chances by some stout defending.

However, Barnett’s persistence paid off when Howe was on hand to power home his delicious right-wing centre, although the visitors might have snatched the win in the last minute of added time, Boot making amends with a fullstretch stop to tip away a low drive across goal from Cameron Hargreaves.

“I am frustrated,” said Lynn boss Tommy Widdrington. “I wanted to go in and say well done, to a man, they put in a really good shift but I felt we lacked quality on the ball in the second half.

“That included everyone, to me nobody looked like having enough about them to put their foot on the ball and dictate.

“Their lad Osborne dictated proceedings for the last half an hour and we did not have anyone man enough to get him off the ball.

“We allowed that, we dropped deeper and deeper and when you invite them to put as many balls into the box as we did, as sure as eggs are eggs one or two are going to end up in your goal.”

Ardley said: “When you are two down with half an hour to go you have to see it as a point gained. We were still trying to win the game but overall it is two dropped, we know that.

“A couple of mistakes gave them that hope, we faced a 5-4-1 so it became harder, they blocked out the middle of the pitch and got tight to us.

“We changed the shape at half-time and tried to be relentless but made another mistake and went two down. Normally that knocks the stuffing out of a team so credit to the boys, they kept going and believing and I can take a lot of positives from that.”
