WESTON-S-MARE 0 DOVER ATHLETIC 8

- OLIVER STEVENS

JACK NELSON netted five goals as Dover Athletic pulled off an impressive away day success in this one-sided battle of east versus west.

Nelson started the rout with an early opener before George Nikaj – just back from a long-term ACL injury – making it two. Forward Nikaj showed little signs of his recent setback with a brilliant individual strike to open up a twogoal margin.

Kieron Agbebi then scored Dover’s third before half-time.

Despite heavy rain, with the ball zipping across the pitch for the full 90 minutes, Dover didn’t show any signs of losing their grip on the game.

After the break, they looked to play at the same tempo and ability as they did in the first which allowed them to limit the chances for Weston Super-Mare. Indeed, the home side created just one real opportunity at a shot on goal.

Continued dominance from the visitors meant for a further fantastic display from the man of the match Nelson as he found himself netting an additional four goals to take his tally to five and Dover’s to seven.

An eighth goal from Harry Sikirwayi completed the rout.

Dover’s Mike Sandmann was left purring over his side’s overall display and also added the importance of the return of Nikaj in helping the Whites to click in the final third.

“George has had a long recovery since suffering from a snapped ACL,” sandmann said. “He played his first game in a year and showed how crucial he is for the team.”

After this performance, and their upcoming fixture against Aldershot, Dover Athletic will look to continue to close the gap on current league leaders Eastleigh.

Weston Super-Mare, meanwhile, will hope things will improve as the games come thick and fast for the Seagulls.
