RYAN’S IRON CHIPP AWAY

BRAINTREE TOWN 1 CHIPPENHAM TOWN 1

- By David Ballheimer

CHIPPENHAM Town secured their first ever goal and point at Braintree Town as they claimed a share of the spoils in a rather forgetable Thursday afternoon encounter at the Dunmow Group Stadium.

Jordan Young gave the Bluebirds the lead six minutes into the second half, only for Kyran Clements to pull the Iron back.

Jack Cawley was sent off for the home side three minutes later but Ryan Maxwell’s men held on for a point to keep them in the play-off mix.

Chippenham just about had the edge of an otherwise poor first half with Alex Bray heading Joe Hanks’ cross over before Jordan Young’s attempt from a corner suffered the same fate.

At the other end, Braintree showed precious little and when they started the second half just as slowly it was no surprise to see Chippenham take the lead.

An error from Jack Paxman, under pressure from Hanks, left Young with a clear run at goal and he finished calmly.

The goal, however, sprung the Iron into life with Cawley heading a decent chance over the bar – their first major assault on the Bluebirss goal.

And, on 72 minutes, they were level when Cawley’s long throw into the box wasn’t cleared and Clements equalised with a shot through a crowd of players.

Cawley’s lively 20 minutes ended soon after when he saw red for a second booking following a foul on Alefe Santos.

Even with ten men, Braintree were on top with Chippenham keeper Will Henry saving well from Lamar Reynolds before Matt Rush fired over the bar from an acute angle.

But just as the board went up to signal seven added minutes, Chippenham thought they had won it when Harry Parsons had the ball in the net, only to be denied by an offside flag.
