SEAGULLS FLY CLEAR AT TOP
WESTON-SUPER-MARE stole a march at the top of the Southern Premier South after Truro City were denied by defiant landlords Plymouth Parkway.
The Seagulls stretched their lead at the top to three points with a comfortable 2-0 win at Tiverton Town, while Truro were held to a 3-3 draw in the Devon derby at Parkway in front of a bumper Boxing Day crowd of 1,385.
And it got even better for Scott Bartlett’s Weston as third-placed Chesham United were surprisingly beaten 3-0 at home by
Hayes & Yeading United, leaving them six adrift of top spot going into the New Year fixtures having also played a game more. Goals at the end of each half from stalwart Scott Laird and Jordan Bastin were enough to see Weston to victory at Tiverton – an eighth win from their last nine games.
Truro remain within catching distance – but only thanks to a stoppage-time equaliser from Andrew Neal in their six-goal thriller at Parkway.
Twice the White Tigers edged in front, through Adam Porter and Connor Riley-Lowe, but second-bottom Plymouth hit back both times courtesy of a Ben Seymour brace.
Jack Crago looked like causing an upset when putting Parkway in front eight minutes from time before Neal’s late intervention.
A crowd of over 700 saw Chesham lose ground as goals from Daniel Green, Adam Liddle and Hassan Jalloh saw inconsistent Hayes cruise to victory and, with it, climb to seventh.
Poole Town, in fourth, took full advantage with a 3-0 home win over Dorchester Town – Tony Lee netting a brace – as did
Bracknell Town, who came from behind to beat Beaconsfield Town 3-2 away on Tuesday night – Joe Grant bagging the winner.
Calvin Brooks’ strike was enough to help Salisbury past near neighbours Winchester City, while Swindon Supermarine made ground with a 2-1 win over bottom club North Leigh.
Met Police were 2-0 winners at Harrow Borough, while Hartley Wintney eased their relegation fears with a fine 3-1 win over Gosport Borough, similarly Hendon, who beat Hanwell Town courtesy of Joe White’s strike. Yate Town and Merthyr Town played out a 2-2 draw.
