FOR NEIL TRIUMPH

- By Liam Drury STAR MAN: Sam Avery (Weston) ENTERTAINMENT:

ASOLITARY Rocky Neal goal was enough to give Truro City victory at Westonsuper-Mare.

Neal had the game’s first attempt inside the opening 60 seconds, but his shot was deflected behind for a corner by Scott Laird.

Neal then had the next attempt on goal when Will Dean found him with a clipped pass, but his shot across goal was just past a post.

From a Truro corner, Weston had their first shot of intent when James Dodd worked a pass into Laird on the counter and the left-back’s shot was narrowly wide of the target.

The visitors were to break the deadlock when Finley Craske intercepted a pass on the edge of his own area and broke forward, managing to ride the challenge of Jacob Jagger Cane on halfway. He fed a pass to Tyler Harvey on the outside of him, and his delightful cross was nodded in by Neal from a few yards out.

In the second half, Lloyd Humphries’ dipping free-kick from 30 yards for Eeston was pushed wide by James Hamon at full stretch.

The Seagulls had the perfect opportunity to get back on level terms just before the hour mark when Reuben Reid was tripped inside the area by Craske after getting across his man to reach a low cross. The referee pointed to the spot, and skipper Dayle Grubb stepped up, but his effort was pushed away by Hamon as the keeper guessed correctly.

Weston continued to come at Truro looking for the equaliser, Reid and Grubb both having attempts blocked at every opportunity.

The hosts were reduced to ten men however inside the final ten minutes, Humphries receiving a second yellow card for a foul on the touchline against White Tigers skipper Connor Riley-Lowe.

Weston substitute Noah Coppin headed a Dodd delivery over the bar from a narrow angle, while Dodd’s cross-shot narrowly evaded the head of Reid and floated behind for a goal kick.

Truro also had one more opportunity when a goalmouth scramble from a free-kick was poked toward goal, but Sam Avery was in the right place to clear away from danger.
