McCLURG WIN FOR

- By Terry Spracklen Gwengwe 29

BRACKNELL Town strengthened their promotion bid with a hard fought win at the Avenue Stadium. Two goals from a strong first-half performance proved enough for the Robins, despite a stirring late fightback from the Magpies.

Bracknell joint-boss Jamie McClurg was delighted with the win, calling it “a massive three points for us.”

McClurg added: “With the quality we’ve got, we know how to see out games. We created five or six good chances in the second half let alone what we created before the break.”

Bracknell keeper Michael Eacott saved an early header from Kieran Douglas, but the Robins surged forward with Ben Harris having a shot blocked, before a clever turn and pass from Gary Abisogun picked up the run of Darryl Sanders who rolled his effort wide.

Another Sanders shot was saved by Magpies keeper Ryan Hall while up Alfie Stanley fired over the bar from 18 yards.

A quickly taken free-kick by Harris struck Alex Moyse before Mickel Platt opened the scoring with a low shot to the bottom corner from a Sanders pass.

The Bracknell lead proved short-lived as Dorchester hit back with a perfect back heel from Bradbury which enabled Shaq Gwengwe to race through

and beat Eacott. Hall then denied George Knight from close range, before Harris restored the visitors lead with another low shot to the same corner.

Defender Douglas and Dan Bayliss headed off target for their respective sides early in the second half, while Dorchester had penalty appeals waved aside after Gwengwe went down after poking the ball past a sprawling Eacott.

The Magpies netted through Gwengwe shortly after, but the offside flag was raised.

Another Robins raid saw Sanders set up Abisogun who was denied by Hall’s foot, Tack hit a post from close range and Grant hooked the rebound wide.

Bracknell weathered a late flurry from the Magpies. Douglas’ header bounced on top of the Bracknell crossbar. Jordi Foot then had a drive blocked, while Gwengwe’s overhead attempt was cut out on the line. STAR MAN: Darryl Sanders (Bracknell) ENTERTAINMENT: ★★★★★
