Millers set up United eliminator

AVELEY 2 BATH CITY 0

- By Jamie Manktelow

AVELEY defied the odds and secured the last play-off place, which sees them travel to Maidstone United on Wednesday.

The Millers took the lead in the seventh minute of the game. Kenny Aileru down the left side left Jordan Dyer for dust and crossed into the top-left corner of the goal.

Eduino Vaz was next to try his luck from long range but he saw his effort flash wide of Bath City’s left post.

Aileru was a constant thorn in Bath’s side and his quick feet set up another chance which saw Hughes’ effort blocked on its way towards goal.

Charlee Hughes almost doubled Aveley’s lead as he reacted to Harry Gibbs’ knockdown but Will Buse saved well.

Yeboah was close to levelling for the Romans as he raced in behind and forced Jonathan North into a brilliant save to keep Aveley ahead just before half time.

Into the second half and Scott Wilson was in behind down the right but despite looking like he rounded Jonathan North, the Aveley keeper made a fantastic save.

With 20 minutes to go, Aveley secured their place in the play-offs. Aileru was taken down inside the box, and Siju Odelusi tucked in his 17th of the season.

Aveley saw out the remaining time and they held on unscathed to secure a playoff place against all the odds.
