Movie map of Highlands
FILM buffs can follow in the footsteps of their favourite characters and tour the Highlands with the help of a new ‘movie map’.
In a joint project between Visit Scotland and Highland council, the map highlights 50 filming locations in the region, featuring everything from Hollywood blockbusters to low-budget horrors.
As well as world-famous landmarks, Glenfinnan viaduct, Eilean Donan castle and Glencoe, the guide features lesser known locations and a section dedicated to Skye.
Councillor Audrey Sinclair, chairwoman of Highland council’s planning, development and infrastructure committee, said: ‘The Highlands has a great history of being used as a movie location and we also know this can be a significant factor in encouraging people to visit the Highlands to experience our fantastic scenery.’
Jenni Steele, Visit Scotland’s film and creative marketing manager, added: ‘This fantastic map is an indispensable guide to movies shot in the Highlands.’
The map is available from Visit Scotland information centres and to download at www.visitscotland.com/films
