Capital performance by local young musicians

-

HIGHLAND musicians performed in Scotland’s capital city as part of an event by the national youth orchestra.

Six pupils from the region, including Anthony Hook, tuba player and Lochaber high school pupil, took to the stage at Grefriars Kirk in Edinburgh.

The show was attended by Highland council’s music development officer, Norma Bolton.

She said: ‘The six Highland students who have been members of the National Youth Orchestra of Scotland’s junior orchestra this year have had a wonderful experience, working with leading tutors and the emerging young conductor, Holly Mathieson. For students who are able to make the commitment to any of the ensembles following successful auditions, the overall experience takes everything we are able to offer musicians in Highland to the next level. It is a credit to the solid foundations we are able to build in young musicians’ groups that so many can rise to the even greater challenges of national ensembles.’
