Dalmally

-

FORMER Dalmally golfer, John Cowan, now of Taymouth Castle, drew on his knowledge of the Strathorchy course to secure his second Open title in three years.

His early clubhouse lead lasted throughout the day with a one over par 65 enough to see off Wyndham Tranter (Raglan Parc) and David Howie (Taynuilt) both of whom shot 67s.

In the handicap section, home player, Graeme MacKechnie, confirmed his recent return to top form with a sparkling 61 to win by two from fellow Dalmally man, Jim Livingstone. A better inward half by newcomer to the Open, Graeme Gavin of Niddry Castle, allowed him to see off a host of players on 64 for third place.

Home players had their radar on scooping all four nearest the pin prizes, Jim Livingstone, Gerry Davies, Shaun Squire and Steven Turner being pin high, while David Graham (Glencruitten) cracked the longest drive of the day.
