Jiu-Jitsu master class for Oban MMA members

-

A MIXED martial arts black belt visited Oban on Saturday to teach a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu master class to members of Oban mixed martial arts.

Brazilian, Marcos Nardini, travelled from his home in Kilmarnock for the three-hour seminar. After the success of the class, he will now become a regular coach at Oban MMA.

The seminar attracted 17 members, including Coogie Potter, who set up Oban MMA.

He said: ‘ We’ve never entered a competition and not come back without a haul of medals.’

Oban MMA evolved into a club over the span of 18-months. It started with Coogie travelling back and forth from Glasgow to train, but the cost of travelling started to take it’s toll. ‘I started to get a couple of regular guys to train with in Oban.

‘My connection with the coaches from Glasgow meant they would now come to us rather than us to them’, he said.

Renowned coaches and fighters from all over the world have visited Oban to teach various aspects of mixed martial arts including Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) superstar, Joanne Calderwood.

Oban MMA train four times a week, Monday, Tuesday and Friday 7.30pm and Thursday 9pm. Anyone thinking of giving it a go gets their first class for free.
