PUPILS on the is­land of Tiree has been given ad­vice how to get the best out of school life.

Tiree high school have handed out five top tips for a good start to the school day. Teach­ers have asked pupils to con­sider hav­ing a good night’s sleep, eat­ing break­fast, or­gan­is­ing for the day ahead, get­ting to school on time and be­ing pre­pared when they get to school.

The school’s news­let­ter, is­sued weekly, also asks par­ents and car­ers to let the school know about the ‘ wider achieve­ments’ of pupils. The news­let­ter reads: ‘If there is any­thing your son or daugh­ter has been awarded, taken part in, shown great im­prove­ment in please let us know as soon as pos­si­ble. This can be in your child’s di­ary or in an email to the school.’

A GOLD­FISH, which was the cen­tre­piece of a peace­ful room in Tiree pri­mary and high school, has passed away, chil­dren found out when they re­cently re­turned to school.

A re­port in the school’s news­let­ter read: ‘Over the sum­mer hol­i­days Bub­bles was lucky to have been given a home in Tigh a Rudha with one of our kindly se­nior cit­i­zens but sadly Bub­bles will not be re­turn­ing to school as she died. We are pleased to have had such a lovely school pet.’
