Sea­son gets un­der way this week­end

BT West Re­gional Shield – Oban Lorne v Isle of Ar­ran OBAN Lorne kick off the 2015/16 sea­son with a home tie in the BT Shield against Di­vi­sion 2 Isle of Ar­ran RFC.

The Green Ma­chine will go into this game with con­fi­dence af­ter a boost in play­ing num­bers and a well-struc­tured pre-sea­son pro­gramme.

The is­lan­ders will pro­vide a tough test for Lorne prior to the fol­low­ing week­end’s away trip to Cam­bus­lang in the open­ing week­end of West Di­vi­sion 1.

Oban should field a strong team de­spite miss­ing club cap­tain Cammy Smith and brother Struan due to work com­mit­ments. Cap­taincy for the game will be taken by 21-year- old Craig Wright.

Kick off will be 3pm at Glen­cruit­ten.

BT West Re­gional Bowl – Birk­myre v Ar­gyll and Bute Ar­gyll and Bute RFC will play their first ever game in the BT Bowl with an away game to Birk­myre in Kil­ma­colm on Satur­day.

Ar­gyll have im­pressed dur­ing the pre-sea­son with home and away friendly wins over Aber­feldy and Kin­tyre.

It is hoped that the team will have a suc­cess­ful sea­son ahead and can ful­fil all of its fix­tures with a blend of youth and ex­pe­ri­enced play­ers. The team are still look­ing for new re­cruits; any­one in­ter­ested can train 6.45-9pm ev­ery Tues­day and Thurs­day night at Oban Lorne RFC.

Ar­gyll and Bute’s first home game of the sea­son will take place on Satur­day Septem­ber 12 with an Ar­gyll derby against Cowal RFC

Oban Lorne Ladies Oban Lorne Ladies be­gin the 2015/16 sea­son this Sun­day at home to Glas­gow Univer­sity RFC in Na­tional Di­vi­sion 1. This is the high­est league that Oban Lorne have played since the team’s for­ma­tion. Kick off is 2pm at Glen­cruit­ten. Ladies’ train­ing runs ev­ery Wed­nes­day night from 6-7pm at Glen­cruit­ten.
