Ultramarathon
Limbering up for Tiree event
COMPETITORS are limbering up for this year’s Tiree Ultramarathon, which takes place on Saturday.
The route - a gruelling 35 miles - circumnavigates the Hebridean island, taking in its dramatic scenery and famous white beaches.
Organiser Will Wright, who runs Tiree Fitness, which provides fitness training, equipment and camps, said he was looking forward to the event’s second year.
‘We have around 200 runners signed up, almost double what we had last year and the 35 miles around the island really captures what Tiree is all about.’
An ultramarathon is anything over the standard marathon length of 26.2miles.
Runners will follow a series of checkpoints with simple navigation in between, including route arrows and a team of marshals will also be on hand to guide progress.
The day’s events will be rounded off with a concert at the island’s An Talla community hall.
