Fun and games for Oban high school pupils
OBAN high school held its annual games day last Friday, with the young athletes managing to stay dry enough to allow all the events to go ahead.
This was the third year that the games have been held the day after the Argyllshire Gathering, at Mossfield Stadium.
The Argyllshire Gathering committee allows the school to use their equipment including the large tents, which housed arts and crafts activities throughout the day.
Head of PE at Oban high, Murray Hamilton, said that the individual championships had been of a very high standard and very close. In some cases only one point separated the winning and second place athletes.
Champions The results were: sports champions - S1 boys, Ellis Hunter, Ossian; S1 girls, Poppy McKillop, Somerled; S2 boys, Sam Coates, Diarmid; S2 girls, Abi Cato, Diarmid; S3 boys, Patrick McBeth, Ossian; S3 girls, Eilidh Shearer, Ossian; S4 boys, Stewart Inglis, Fingal; S4 girls, Lauren Turner, Somerled; senior boys, Ben Coates, Diarmid; senior girls, Roanne Lilley, Ossian; Headmaster’s cup, Scott Black, Diarmid; the Argyllshire Gathering trophy, Daniel Spiers.
The Highland dancing was won by Katie MacPherson, and the piping champion was Gregor MacDonald.
Overall clan winners were Diarmid, with 303 points, followed by Ossian on 203, Somerled on 176 and Fingal on 109.
