Teaching talks

-

HIGHLAND council has joined forces with five other northern local authorities to tackle teacher shortages.

Officials will join those of Aberdeen, Aberdeenshire, Moray, Orkney and Shetland councils at a summit next month, aimed at addressing the issue.

Scottish government ministers and members of the General Teaching Council for Scotland will also attend the event on October 7.

Jenny Laing, leader of Aberdeen City council, the driving force behind the summit, said: ‘ Whilst not yet at crisis levels this is nevertheless a serious issue that we want to tackle now to protect the interests of pupils.

‘ We urge the Scottish government to work with us on finding a solution at a national level. This is a case where one size does not fit all councils.’
