Indoor centre to remain closed

AN INDOOR climbing centre in Kinlochleven will remain closed following a fire.

The Ice Factor climbing centre has been under refurbishment since the fire on July 29 and costs are set to exceed £250,000.

Hopes to open the centre early this month were dashed when the smoke damage was discovered to be more extensive than initially thought.

Jamie Smith, owner of Ice Factor International which includes Ice Factor Kinlochleven, said: ‘It became clear the smoke damage to the 119-year- old building was far more extensive than initially assumed.’

The damage covers the rock and ice- climbing walls, the retail area, cafe bar and restaurant.

Make your way to ‘Barradise’ please

TEACHERS have been promised ‘polite pupils with no discipline problems’, in a desperate plea by parents on Barra for a maths post to be filled.

The position at Castlebay community school has been vacant since December last year and the parent council has called for teachers to move to ‘Barradise’ to take on the role. A statement posted on Facebook by parents said: ‘Just imagine what it would be like to teach in small classes, with polite pupils, no discipline problems, and children willing to learn. What could be more perfect?’

First history talk of new session

THE FIRST talk of Lochaber Local History Society’s new session will take place tonight ( Thursday).

Retired teacher, Iain Rose, will lead the first event from 8pm in Fort William’s Ben Nevis hotel, discussing the lead up to the arrival of the West Highland railway in the 1890s.
