‘Cheeky’ workers nab parking bays

-

RESIDENTS of St Valery Place in Oban are seeing a rise in the number of cars parking in their private bays since fines were introduced into the town.

They say the culprits are local authority workers and housing association staff who are ‘cheekily’ parking in their spots before spending a whole day at work.

One man, who did not want to be named, said: ‘Every morning I see the same person coming to park for the day - including at weekends.

‘ These are private parking places and I’ve told Argyll and Bute council and West Highland Housing Association, but nothing has changed so far.’

A spokesman for Argyll and Bute council said: ‘ Although we have had one complaint in relation to this, ultimately it is the driver’s responsibility, as a private individual, to ensure that they park their vehicle correctly.

‘It is not for the council as an employer to tell staff where they should and should not park. The council has no enforcement powers in private car parks.

‘As part of the council’s healthy working lives initiative, we encourage staff to make healthy travel choices such as walking and cycling to work, where possible.’
