Islay collection boosts Ghurkas

-

A SCHEME on Islay will see unwanted ink cartridges help Ghurkas in Nepal.

Portnahaven post office is collecting the cartridges and old mobile phones to raise cash.

Alastair Redman, left, who runs the post office, said: ‘ We have recently started collecting used inkjet cartridges and old mobile phones.

‘The Gurkah Welfare Trust is happily putting these items to use. For every old phone the trust can receive up to £ 30 and for every used inkjet cartridge they receive up to £ 3.50.

‘The money is used to relive the hardship and distress among Gurkha ex-servicemen and their dependants in Nepal. We have had one or two old phones and a ton of used inkjet cartridges.

‘The response has been great. A huge thanks goes to everyone who has helped with the appeal.’
